Rusakov Igor Georgiyevich

Igor Georgiyevich was born in 1945. In 1969, he graduated from Khabarovsk state medical institute. After that, during 3 years he worked in Medical school teaching surgery and combining this work with the work as an onco-surgeon at the city cancer detection center.

In September 1972, he entered Irkutsk State Medical Institute where he completed his residency training in surgical specialty in 1974. He was the head of the surgical department at the city cancer detection center in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and worked at the department of surgical gastroenterology at the regional clinical hospital in Irkutsk. 

Then there were postgraduate studies in oncology (1978-1981) in the P.A. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MNIOI P.A. Gertsena). He defended his master's thesis entitled "The use of cyanoacrylate in the treatment of retroperitoneal tumors and rectal cancer".

From 1982 till 2011 he worked in the MNIOI P.A. Gertsena, where he consistently took the positions of the junior, senior and leading researcher of the oncourology group at the department of abdominal oncology. From June 2003 till April 2011 he was the head of the department of oncourology.

His scientific and practical activity is closely associated with the development and the implementation of the polymer-conjugated drugs into the clinic's care practice as well as the development of suitable diagnostic, surgical approaches towards successful combined and complex treatment. He is also involved in the process of rehabilitation of patients with different types of tumors, including bladder cancer, renal cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Results of his scientific and practical activity are reflected in his doctoral thesis entitled "Development, experimental study and implementation of the polymer-conjugated drugs into daily oncology practice" (1989).

Igor Georgiyevich is an author of 5 monographs, chapters in 7 guidelines, 2 textbooks, 9 training manuals for physicians, 295 scientific works published in medical literature.

He suggested and successfully defended 15 inventor's certificates, 6 international patents, developed new combinations leading to additional efficacy of anticancer drug therapy. He invented new methods of surgical approach and combined therapy as well as new approaches to the process of rehabilitation of cancer patients. Results of his studies were presented at the international and republican congresses, conferences and symposiums.

In 1995, Igor Georgiyevich Rusakov has been awarded the scientific title of Professor of Oncology.

Under his leadership and direct involvement numerous scientific events are organized, including Russian and Moscow scientific and practical conferences, workshops and symposiums devoted to the different aspects of surgical and combined treatment of the genitourinary malignancies.

Being a professor of the department, I.G. Rusakov is involved in teaching at the Faculty for Postgraduate Professional Education of Physicians, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Academy. He is a member of the attestation commission for 'oncology' of the Department of Health of Moscow, a member of the European Association of Urology, editor-in-chief of the journal "Oncology today". In 2007, Igor Georgiyevich has been awarded the order of N.I. Pirogov. He has successfully supervised 23 master's theses and 8 doctoral theses.
