Alyayev Yuri Gennadyevich

Yuri Gennadyevich was born in Penza region. In 1965, he graduated from Bashkir Medical Institute with honours degree and decided to devote all his professional life to surgery. In 1965-1967, he worked in City Hospital, Sterlitamak, where he gained the first surgical experience. His constant desire to expand his knowledge led him to the clinic of urology of the State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "I.M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University" of the Health Care Ministry of Russia. In 1973, after his postgraduate studies he worked at the department of urology at the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov where he consistently took the positions of assistant, associate professor, professor. From 1998 till present he is the head of the department of urology.

In 1991, Yuri Gennadyevich has been awarded the scientific title of Professor of the department of urology of the SEI of HPE "I.M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University" of the Health Care Ministry of Russia. For more than 15 years he has been responsible for the educational programme at the department.

In 2002, he became a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2004, he became the Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation. He is an honorary member of the Russian society of urologists and was awarded with a badge "Honourable worker of public health services". In 2007, he has been awarded the title of an Honorary Professor of I.M. Sechenov MSA.

His scientific publications are devoted to different aspects of urology. Yuri Gennadyevich addresses issues related to the problems of diagnosis and treatment of an enlarged prostate, nephrolithiasis, hydronephrosis, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, varicocele.

He is one of the first in Russia who began to use the thoracoabdominal approaches in renal surgery and his master's thesis, devoted to this problem, was successfully defended in 1973. He has developed and successfully implemented manuals for the management of an inferior vena cava tumor thrombus, metastatic extension into surrounding organs and surgery in cases of renal cancer located in the solitary kidney or both kidneys (doctoral thesis was defended in 1989).

He has successfully supervised almost all contemporary endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques which are broadly used in urologic surgery today.

He is one of the first surgeons and the only urologist who began to treat the most severe patients in the conditions of hyperbaric chamber, experiencing extensive atmospheric pressure of 2-4 atmospheres. He managed to treat 65 patients in such conditions. Results of these complicated surgeries are published in Russian and foreign literature.

Nowadays, staff of the clinic of urology of the 1st MSMU named after I.M. Sechenov, headed by Yuri Gennadyevich, is actively studying and using in its daily routine practice all up-to-date diagnostic techniques from molecular to virtual levels.

Yuri Gennadyevich Alyayev is an author of more than 1200 scientific publications, including 28 monographs, 9 books, 15 guidelines for physicians, 19 training manuals. He is an author of a manual "Urology" and "The illustrated practice of urology" for medical students. Moreover, Yuri Gennadyevich is an author of 11 scientific inventions and an efficiency proposal "Method of anesthesia for renal artery embolization".
