Komyakov Boris Kirillovich
Boris Kirillovich was born on May 27, 1952 in Leningrad. In 1976, he graduated from the medical faculty of the Leningrad Sanitary-Hygienic Medical Institute (LSHMI). B.K. Komyakov has certificates in urology and oncology and the highest level of qualification in urology. In 2000, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Methods of prevention and treatment of organic obstruction at the distal urethra in the urinary system surgery". In 2004, he has been awarded the scientific title of Professor of Medicine.
In 1974, while being a 4th year student at the medical faculty of the LSHMI, he organized the students' scientific society in urology and was its head till his graduation from the Institute. After graduation he worked as a urologist in Veliky Ustyug, Vologda region. In the next 17 years he worked at the department of urology at Saint Petersburg State Medical University, where he consistently took the positions from the clinical intern to the associate professor at the same department.
Since 1998 he is the head of the department of urology in City Multidisciplinary Hospital №2, Saint Petersburg, and the professor of the department of urology at the St. Petersburg I. I. Mechnikov State Medical Academy. Since 2006 he is the head of the department of urology at the same Academy.
He is a board member of the Bureau of the Saint Petersburg and the Russian society of urologists, a member of the European Association of Urology. Since 2001 he is the chief urologist of the Health Committee of Saint Petersburg Administration.
Headed by B.K. Komyakov clinic is the leading clinic among the relevant profile hospitals. Every year more than 1200 complex surgical procedures are performed in it and its surgical rate is the highest among urology clinics of the city, accounting for more than 60% and mortality rate of 0,3%-0,4%. Boris Kirillovich invented a variety of complex reconstructive plastic surgery procedures which were given 6 patents for invention in the last 3 years. In 2005, the department headed by him was recognized to be the best one in the city by the Health commission Board. In 2006, at the plenary meeting of Russian society of urologists he was awarded the diploma of the academic N.A. Lopatkin Prize winner as the head of the best urology team in Russia. Boris Kirillovich is a member of the attestation, formulary and medical expert commission of the Health Committee of Saint Petersburg Administration and a member of the specialized dissertation council in urology and gynecology at the Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov.
Among the main priorities of his scientific activity are the study of pathogenesis of genitourinary diseases and development of new methods of treatment of urological pathologies, urolithiasis, endourology, oncourology, lithotripsy, reconstructive and plastic urology, urogynecology. He implemented a new approach in the treatment of kidney and urinary tract disorders - abdominal urology.
Boris Kirillovich has more than 400 scientific publications, 15 patents for invention and 11 improvement suggestions. In 2005, he published his monograph entitled "Surgical treatment of extensive ureter strictures". He has successfully supervised 20 master's theses and 1 doctoral thesis. He participates and works in close collaboration with the European and International Associations of Urology.
