Abstract

Introduction. Kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) is the most common subtype of kidney cancer, making up about 70–80 % of all cases. This cancer displays high molecular heterogeneity and responds poorly to standard therapies. Over the past decade, research on KIRC has shifted significantly toward genetically based treatments and precision medicine.

Aim. To analyze global trends in KIRC genetics and treatment research through a bibliometric review of the Scopus database from 2009 to 2025.

Materials and methods. The method involved collecting documents with the keyword “Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma” in English. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer software for keyword network visualization and Bibliometrix (R Studio) for descriptive analysis, including publication growth, international collaborations, affiliations, and citations. Analysis was also conducted on thematic clustering and the identification of the most influential authors and institutions.

Results. There were 870 publications across 285 sources, with an annual growth rate of 28.31 %. International collaborations made up only 9.66 %, highlighting the dominance of domestic partnerships. The most active author was Wang Y, with 58 publications and 773 citations. Three main thematic groups were identified: gene-based prognostic models, pan-cancer approaches, and molecular mechanisms of tumors. Topics like immunotherapy, multi-omics, and artificial intelligence experienced notable increases in citations.

Conclusion. KIRC global research advanced quickly toward integrating genetically based precision therapies. This study provided a strategic foundation for research planning, funding, and international collaboration in molecular oncology.
